A Way Home
Staff provide transportation for those released from jail with no other options
A Way Home – Restoration Beyond the Normal Workweek
When CATA stopped serving Spring Township, Benner Township, and Bellefonte, it created a transportation gap that directly impacted those we serve. The Centre County Correctional Facility is in Benner Township, and probation services are in Bellefonte. Often, when individuals are released from jail, they have no one to pick them up—no way to get to probation, to rehab, or even home. That’s when CentrePeace steps in.
We’ve provided rides to Philipsburg, to rehab in Altoona, and even to a VA facility in Butler County. These aren’t scheduled trips. They aren’t part of a job description. They are acts of compassion—staff members volunteering their time, accepting only reimbursement for expenses, and embodying the heart of CentrePeace: restoration through relationship, kindness, and showing up when it matters most.
Restoration in Action
Restoration doesn’t clock out—and neither do the hearts of our staff. When one of our trainees was released at 8AM on a Sunday morning, a CentrePeace employee was there to greet them, help retrieve their belongings, and drive them home—a 100-mile round trip offered freely and with grace.
When Sandy, a TAP employee without a car or license, needed to be with her mother battling pancreatic cancer, staff members drove her to Berks County—twice. Each trip was a 278-mile round journey. These rides allowed her to be present during her mother’s final days and to attend her memorial service. Staff accepted only reimbursement for actual expenses.
These moments are more than acts of kindness. They are living examples of our mission in motion—proof that restoration is not just a program, but a posture. A way of showing up. A way of saying, “You matter. You’re not alone. We’re with you.”
What Recipients Say
“I didn’t know how I was going to get home. I guess I could have hitchhiked. I’m thankful that CCCF contacted CentrePeace to help me get home.”
Gratitude in Motion
We are deeply thankful for every customer and every donor—for being a vital part of our mission through your generous donations and purchases. Each day, and especially days like these, are a living testament to the incredible impact we can have when we come together in grace and purpose.
